KDC Condemns Persecution of Kurds in Iran and Calls for Global Action

The Iranian regime’s treatment of Kurds in recent incidents is a cause for serious concern. Armîta Giravend, a 17-year-old Kurdish resident fromLoristan in eastern Kurdistan, came to public attention following an encounter with a security officer identified as “HijabBan.” Tragically, she died after being in a coma for 28 days.

This tragic incident happened in September at the Shuheda metro station in Tehran. The Iranian regime sought to veil the circumstances surrounding this incident, but their attempts at concealment were thwarted by the steadfast resistance of Armita’s grieving family. In this particular instance, the authorities attempted to take custody of her dead body, while simultaneously pressuring her family to burry her in their hometown of Kirmashah.

Violence against Kurds is a daily occurrence in Iran. Just recently, two Kurdish teachers, Sîrwa Pur Muhammed and Idris Minbari, were sentenced to 10 years in prison for teaching the Kurdish language in the city of Sine. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Kurdish community in Iran.

“The Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation (KDC), strongly condemns the Iranian regime’s actions and the tragic loss of Armîta Giravend. We believe that speaking and learning the Kurdish language is a fundamental right for the Kurdish people and call for the immediate release of two Kurdish teachers SîrwaPur Muhammed and Idris Minberi.

We appeal to both Iranian and global communities to condemn and protest against the Iranian regime’s actions. Together, we can work towards safeguarding the rights and lives of Kurds in Iran.

Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation remains committed to advocating for the well-being and rights of the Kurdish people”.
