KDC Representative Urges Canada to Designate Revolutionary Guards as Terrorists

Calgary, Alberta, Canada — Rahim Rashidi, renowned as Mr. Kurd and serving as the Representative of the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation in the United States and Canada, recently addressed members of the Kurdistan Diaspora and the Canadian Parliament in Calgary. The primary focus of his speech was a passionate call to action, urging the Canadian government to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization.

In a stirring Town Hall meeting, Rashidi expressed his gratitude for the presence of distinguished guests, including Ziad Aboultaif, Tom Kmiec, and Jasraj Singh Hallan. He underscored the critical role these individuals play in strengthening the relationship between Canada and Kurdistan, actively supporting the Kurdish cause.

Rashidi acknowledged the ongoing struggles of the Kurdish people, emphasizing the recent missile attacks by the Iranian regime on Erbil, resulting in tragic casualties, including businessman Peshraw Dzeyi and his one-year-old daughter Zhina Peshraw. He denounced the Iranian government’s deceptive claims and highlighted its extensive history of terrorism against Kurds, dating back to 1979.

While expressing appreciation for Canada’s historical support, Rashidi urged the Canadian government to officially recognize the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. He emphasized the necessity of holding Iran accountable for its actions, citing instances such as the assassination of Iranian Canadian photojournalist Zara Kazemi in 2003 and the downing of Ukrainian Flight 752 in 2020.

Rashidi commended the efforts of Tom Kmiec and his colleagues in advocating for the designation of the Revolutionary Guards as terrorists. He stressed that despite the contributions of Kurdish fighters to freedom and democracy, the Canadian government’s current stance allows supporters of the Iranian regime to reside in the country without restrictions.

The KDC Representative called on members of the Canadian Parliament to issue a statement condemning Tehran’s actions against the Kurdish people. Additionally, he urged support for the Kurdistan Regional Government, emphasizing its role in defeating ISIS and upholding human rights, freedom of the press, and religious minorities.

Amidst discussions about the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation, Rashidi highlighted its recent establishment and global reach, with 40 centers worldwide. The organization aims to collaborate with those who respect Kurdistan’s flag and freedom symbols, fostering unity among various groups, including youth, women, and professional federations.

In conclusion, Rashidi reaffirmed the commitment of the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation to expand its work, engage with NGOs, and advocate for the Kurdish cause on the international stage. The General Committee, consisting of 25 members from all parts of Kurdistan and former Soviet Union countries, stands united in their pursuit of justice and freedom for the Kurdish people.
